Solution A good way to improve your hand held scanner's performance is to use an antenna that's dedicated to the frequency that you you want to listen to. By using a telescopic antenna you can adjust the length. Instead of extending it to it's full length, try extending it to the length that is around a quarter wave of the frequency band you are interested in. You can find this by dividing 7500 by the frequency in MHz; the answer will be in centimetres. So, as an example for, say, 450MHz, you should only extend the telescopic antenna to around 16-17 cm.
